Why Run Your Own Race?
Share
We’re all about running our own race. For our family of five—me, my wife, and our three daughters—that means chasing freedom over following the crowd. It’s not always easy. Society drills into you young that the hamster wheel—school, 9-5, debt, repeat—is the only path. We believed it too, until we didn’t.
Breaking free started with questioning everything. For us, it clicked with two moments. First, our girls set up a lemonade and cinnamon bun stand in our jungle village. They sold out in 30 minutes, eyes sparkling, already planning the next one—bigger signs, new recipes with Mom. That’s the kind of entrepreneurial fire you don’t get from worksheets. Then, we tried private school, a fancy Montessori even, but watching our daughters slog through handwriting drills felt like a time suck. Life’s too short for outdated systems that don’t light you up.
Bitcoin plays a big part in our race. It’s not just money—it’s a way to save our hard work and time with something real, something that grows in value as we do. It fuels our creativity, letting us build a merch store that’s as much about art and ideas as it is about Bitcoin. From our little village to the global stage, we’re free to create value on our terms, not someone else’s.
We’ve ditched the stuff that drags you down—debt, cookie-cutter jobs, and, yeah, traditional school. Back in Canada, we saw folks pile on debt to “get ahead” now, but we’re all about low time preference: building for the long haul, not instant gratification. Living in the Yucatán, surrounded by jungle and community, keeps us grounded in what matters—time with each other, real connections, and betting on ourselves.
So, here’s the thought experiment: take a hard look at your life. Are you pouring your energy into something your soul actually cares about? Stripping away the noise was scary at first, but every month we hear stories of stress and burnout, we know we’re on the right path. Having each other, time, and the freedom to make our own choices beats any paycheck. We wish our family back home could see it too, and maybe one day they will.
Trust yourself. Bet on yourself. You won’t regret it.
